A Stereotype of Tattoos

It has always amazed me that through the years the stereotype surrounding tattoos has remained even while their popularity has shifted to a much larger audience. I attribute a lot of this change to mainstream programming on cable channels such as TLC with shows like Miami Ink and LA Ink, many viewers have witnessed what individual tattoos mean to their respective owners.

What has always been strange to me is the lack of depth people try to comprehend. I have seen friends and family that are outspoken against getting tattoos, however, engage in similar rituals in their own life. I show them that they have tattooed their car, their school books, their homes, even their bodies with their clothing.

What is so different in putting ink in skin if it is something you can stand to have with you day in and day out? Here is a good example of a car tattoo I have found:

Not knowing what this emblem actually means or is a branded symbol for, I can tell this person is more of a free spirit, possibly enjoying things like surfing, biking and hanging amongst friends. Whether it be a tattoo on skin or on a car, the depiction of something you carry on the inside being shown on the outside is all tattoos are about.

Look outside the box, try to comprehend others a bit deeper than the surface and simply get over it already!
